Well, there ya go! Your first glimpse of our new city! Our new home!
Soooooo yeahhhhhh... Things have been prett-yyyy crazy for Team Starnes recently... As many of you know we officially said goodbye to London and moved up to Aberdeen, Scotland. Currently, we are living in temporary housing while searching for a home and acclimating to our new environment. James and I have family here, which makes this transition process much easier, but we are still taking it one day at a time and trying not to overwhelm ourselves. (actually, read: me. singular. james is a cool cucumber.)
Since we arrived last Tuesday, it's been non-stop. We've been house-hunting, visiting with my family over the Thanksgiving holiday and enjoying our time together in our new city.
Yes. It is as rainy and wet as everyone told me it would be.
Yes. I didn't see any blue (like, in the sky) for almost three days.
Yes. The sunset today is at 3:23 PM.
Yes. '50 Shades of Grey' is an understatement.
Yes. When the sun came out on Sunday, we high-tailed it out the door to explore our new surroundings! WITHOUT AN UMBRELLA! Now, that's just huge.
Regardless of the weather—which actually isn't that terrible considering we came from London—we've really enjoyed our first six days in Aberdeen.
#1: Our relo people have taken reallyyyy good care of us and put us in a nice flat in the middle of town. And the bed is HUGE. And comfortable.— hollaaa!
#2: The water is sooooo pure. I will never own a Brita filter again—the BEST tasting water EVER. the end.
#3: We've seen a handful of properties that have A LOT of promise and character— sweat off my brow!
#4: James has had downtime basically for the first time in 15 months— that is VERY nice!
#5: We've met some lovely people in James' industry— always a good thing!
#6: We enjoyed our first nice weather in Aberdeen—whew! just when I needed it!
#7: We stumbled upon a festive parade on the main street in town (Union Street) where we experienced our first bagpipe marching band— amazing, obviously!
#8: We've found a few pubs and cafes that will likely be a staple in our beverage consumption repertoire— necessary.
#9: We witnessed an amazing sunset after a luxurious walk around the city and saw the granite buildings sparkle in the sunlight—Wow! Just wow. Seriously, I did NOT alter the saturation or vibrancy of those photographs!
James and I are super lucky to be in the situation we're in, and trust me, it's not lost on either of us. I am feeling positive and I look forward to our future in Granite City, and sharing our adventures with all our family and friends all over the world. I know I have been MIA, but with everything going on I just haven't had enough time to dedicate to blogging or reading blogs... Hopefully, I will get back into the swing of things shortly!
Alright you guys, much love from Scotland!
Ahh it looks so beautiful! Those early winter sunsets may be a bit too early but the colors are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYay! Glad you're back and the move went smoothly. Are you two buying or looking for a place to rent while you're there? How lucky to have family near by!

ReplyDeleteI know! I can't believe how yellow the sunsets are!
ReplyDeleteWe are renting. But we will likely be here for a while, so I want to actually "nest" this time.
ReplyDeleteThanks babe! xx
ReplyDeleteThank Tee! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah... It's really just an Oil and Gas town. The majority of the people are in that industry. I'm not as excited about Aberdeen, per se, as being able to explore Scotland in general... ya know?!
ReplyDeleteLOVING all your photos. Oh my goodness, swooning over that sunset. I'm looking at business school in Edinburgh as well as a few other places in London so maybe we will be near each other next year (Margo already told me she's jealous of that prospect!) xo
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you do! xx
ReplyDeleteYou, me, Marg= happening soon!
ReplyDeleteHahaha so many babies in that one picture :)
