Scenes from a Heavenly Sunset in Gordes, France

We arrived at the small hillside village of Gordes right before sunset. I intended on spending the remaining sunlight meandering around the inside of the village walls, but I quickly realized there was something else on my radar.

The above photo is basically the only photo I captured while inside the walls... Oops!

I was drawn away from the village and into the outskirts of town. I was looking for a view—a view that I had seen before, and a view that I wanted to see for myself.






Sure enough, I found the spot where I was able to snag my own iconic photograph of the hillside village.

For a second I thought, "Okay. Whew! Got it! That's done. Let's use the reminding light to walk around the inside of Gordes..." Then things got more complicated.






You see, I'm a sucker for sunsets.

Yes. These heavenly cotton-candy skies stole the show. . . and my time. . . and my sunlight. Instead of focusing on experiencing Gordes—which is what we came here to do—J and I were drawn even further out of town, basically into someone's back garden, and mesmerized by the colors in the sky.



I guess, we did experience Gordes after all.








Eventually, we made it back into town for dinner, just as the last bit of sunlight was sinking into the horizon. We ate and drank on an outside patio with that sky as our backdrop. Yes. BEST dinner date in France thus far! And I think you can see why!
